Medical Assistant

We are seeking highly organized, proactive, compassionate individuals to join our team as a Medical Assistant to support our members and our clinical team in Altoona, PA.

As a Medical Assistant you will play a pivotal role in caring for our members and building relationships while supporting providers in a family practice environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to) :

  • Taking medical histories
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Preparing patients for examinations
  • Assisting the physician during examinations
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Performing basic laboratory tests
  • Instructing patients about medication and special diets
  • Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injectionsincluding vaccinations / immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider
  • Transmitting prescription refills as directed
  • Phlebotomy
  • Taking electrocardiograms
  • Wound care and changing dressings.

    • Administrative Duties (may include, but not limited to) :

  • Using computer applications
  • Answering telephones
  • Welcoming patients
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms.
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services

    • Expectations :

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

  • CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

    • Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required at minimum.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assistant school or program is required. Diploma required. Certification is a plus but not required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
