Overview
Syracuse Hancock International Airport operated by Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is a full-time position for an experienced Network Engineer responsible for the complex programming, configuration, support and maintenance of SRAA networks and systems. The role requires knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures for installing, configuring, troubleshooting and optimizing hardware, software and communication links. The position reports to an administrative supervisor and includes after-hours and on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Manages and supports hardware and software components pertaining to SRAA Network infrastructure, including operating systems, routers, switches, firewall, wireless, SDN, LAN / WAN, VPN, and office IT matters
- Primary support for Syracuse Airport campus-wide security network, hardware, and backend software
- Maintains campus-wide security hardware, software, and equipment lifecycle
- Configures, deploys and maintains all firewalls, switches and servers
- Recommends, schedules, and performs network maintenance, improvements, upgrades and repairs
- Performs RMA's and / or hardware swaps, coordinating with third-party OEMs and cross-functional support teams
- Troubleshoots ISP delivery circuits and hardware, working with ISPs to minimize downtime
- Builds and deploys virtual and on-prem servers
- Develops and documents systems standards for computer and network devices
- Develops and documents system diagrams and layouts
- Troubleshoots hardware and software issues
- Monitors and tests performance of multiple networks, including Wi-Fi
- Images computers
- Evaluates and recommends new technology
- Participates in implementation of new programs and projects
- Provides network performance statistics and reports
- Responds to network and service incidents
- Recommends network designs that meet SRAA system needs
- Works with internal and external stakeholders and providers, including airport tenants and employees, delivering high-level customer service
- Monitors and reports on system availability; implements improvements when necessary
- May assist in training of other staff
- Performs other related duties as required
Requirements
Experience with multiple vendor hardware platforms including Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, HP Nimble, industrial switchesKnowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies and protocolsKnowledge of application-level protocols such as SNMP, telnet, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, DHCPv6, DNS, 802.1x, IPSecAbility to analyze complex situations and troubleshoot under pressureUnderstanding of Office 365 and Azure Suite, including Exchange, in an enterprise environmentAbility to troubleshoot technical issuesAbility to learn Airport Common Use platforms and security systemsExperience with security door controllers and networked camerasKnowledge of project management tools and ability to manage multiple projects with deadlinesKnowledge of physical networking equipment and configuration best practicesAbility to read / understand and interpret technical and procedural manualsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionEffective communication skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to work with diverse staff, tenants, and vendorsAbility to understand and follow verbal and written instructionsMust be able to work the required schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed (and respond within 20 minutes)Physical ability to move between locations, sit or stand for extended periods, repetitive hand / wrist use, and lift up to 25 pounds with or without accommodationMinimum Qualifications
Open Competitive : bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college / university or equivalent military experience, plus 5 years of related work experience; or associate degree plus 7 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of experience and trainingSpecial Requirements : holds or is willing to obtain certifications specific to SRAA campus security system; ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge; security clearance background check requiredThe position is approved through NYS Civil Services HELPS program with a probationary period of 52 weeksSalary and Benefits
