Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Plant Manager to oversee daily operations and maintenance at a central energy plant supplying steam, hot water, chilled water, electrical distribution, and backup generation assets. The role involves managing O&M staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance. The Assistant Plant Manager also supports long-term planning, outage management, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Lead daily operation and maintenance of energy assets including turbines, generators, HRSGs, chillers, cooling towers, and electrical systems.Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.Supervise and develop O&M staff, including scheduling, training, and performance reviews.Support outage planning, capital projects, and long-term reliability initiatives.Collaborate with Plant Manager on budgets, cost optimization, and performance metrics.Investigate operating issues, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.Oversee contractors, vendors, and site activities to ensure compliance and quality of work.Job Requirements :
High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.8+ years of supervisory or managerial experience in a cogeneration or power plant environment with a union workforce.Strong knowledge of plant operations, generating equipment, boilers, water treatment, and maintenance practices.Experience with planning, scheduling, and budgeting in an operations setting.Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work irregular hours, participate in outages, and perform under plant conditions.Must be able to meet physical requirements, including confined space entry, lifting, and use of protective equipment.Education / Experience :
