We are seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and flexible Substitute Teachers to provide instruction and support in our daycare (ages 2-4) and classrooms (grades K-8) when regular teachers are absent. The Substitute Teacher is expected to implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher, manage student behavior, and create a safe and positive learning environment.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.
Responsibilities:
Deliver lessons and activities based on the teacher’s prepared plans.
Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and other areas as needed.
Maintain classroom routines and expectations.
Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding student behavior and completion of lessons.
Adapt teaching methods to meet student needs as appropriate.
Uphold school policies, rules, and procedures.
Communicate effectively with students and school staff.
Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or coursework in education preferred.
Valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching permit (as required by state or district).
Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is a plus.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Ability to follow instructions and maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
Salary range for this role is $17.00/hour- $22.00/ hour, depending upon education and experience.
