Job Summary : Under the direction of the Store Director, the Grocery Manager is primarily responsible for assisting and working with the Assistant Store Director in all aspects of the Grocery department operations. Assists in the operation of the store with emphasis on the Front-End and Grocery departments. In the absence of the Assistant Store Director, the Grocery Manager assumes the responsibilities of the Assistant Store Director.
Essential Job Duties :
Customer serviceDirectly supervises 6 or more employees including Food Clerks, Grocery Clerks, Chill / Frozen Lead, and Receiving ClerksTrains and retrains all Grocery Department Personnel towards improved efficiency and increased job knowledge.Proficiency in the ITASCA systemAssumes the role of Manager on duty when Store Director and Assistant Store Director are not on duty.Signs and approves all deliveries and orders, clearing of invoices, price changes, merchandise credits, weekly schedules based on a set weekly budget, personnel information forms, employee evaluations, accident reports, and building maintenance job orders.Maintains and develops good relationships with various vendors.Complies with and enforces all store activities in relation to governmental and regulatory agencies such as OSHA, Food and Drug Administration, and the Department of Health.Works with all other departments within the store to enhance and improve the merchandising of all grocery items.Supports and promotes sales programs initiated by the company and at the stores.Plans, organizes, and delegates the day-to-day duties and projects of the grocery department. Follows up with the staff to ensure that all duties, customer service, and special projects are being completed, and evaluates the grocery department staff regularly.Prepares various management reports and schedules, such as work schedules, sales projections, budget reports, and monitor price changes.Attends DWH meetings and conference calls as scheduled.Responsible for checking the sales floor regularly to ensure that shelves are properly filled.Reviews work methods for efficiency and safety.Ensures that proper merchandising techniques are utilized.Handles customer questions, complaints, accidents, special orders, or situations which merit attention or follow-up.Understand, enforce, and abide by all company policies and procedures.Other Job Duties :
Ordering of merchandise manually or through the ITASCA systemDaily cycle counts of the grocery floor to ensure ITASCA system is ordering properlyInsures reclamation is inputted daily, display collection, and all other maintenance to uphold inventory accuracy.Stock shelves, prepare sales floor, and conduct spot checks as necessary.Planning, preparing, and building of displays.Oversees and implements price changes.Receives merchandise and ensures that authorized items are received.Reviews and controls inventory in the backroom.Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of the warehouse, grocery walk-in freezers, dairy / chill cases, and grocery sales floor.Ensures that proper credit is received for damages and they have been returned to the respective vendors.Takes inventory.Operates cash register and bags groceries as needed.Ensures security of the backroom.Any tasks as deemed necessary by management.Physical Requirements :
Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs on own.Must be able to push and pull at least 1000 lbs.Stand for extended periods of time.Frequent bending and stooping required during the workday.Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for various activities.18 years of age or older (operates heavy machinery).Mental Requirements :

On average, minimum 40 hours / week.May require working overnight, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.Occasional longer shifts (10 hours) due to business needs.Must be able to work at any Times location on the island.Working Conditions :
Fast-paced environment that may be demanding and / or stressful.Work done primarily indoors with air conditioning.Warehouse is not air conditioned and could reach temperatures over 100 Degrees Fahrenheit during the summer months.Walk-in chills; temperatures between 30-40 Degrees Fahrenheit.Walk-in freezer; temperatures below 0 Degrees Fahrenheit.Equipment :
Computer for ITASCA reports and functions.Box cutters.Label guns.Inventory / ITASCA / DSD receiving unit (Motorola).Pallet jacks.Fork lift.Hand trucks.Step stool.Ladders.Cash register.Computers.Balers.Flat beds.Potential Hazards :
Working with box cutters.Working with machinery to relocate heavy loads.Changes in environmental temperature when working outside and inside of the store as well as in the dairy, chill, and freezer.Qualifications :
Education / Training / Experience :High school diploma or equivalent.Possess knowledge, experience, and expertise of grocery operations or similar job experience.Minimum of 3 years experience in Grocery / Retail or similar job experience.Communication :Excellent customer service skills.Able to effectively communicate with others in English.Good phone etiquette.Possess acceptable written and verbal communication skills in English.Other :Accurately and efficiently complete work in a timely manner.Able to effectively prioritize work.Able to meet deadlines in a short period of time.Able to quickly pick up and follow through with various projects.Troubleshooting / problem-solving ability.Compensation : Starting rate (as deemed by current pay schedule) or commensurate with experience.
