Manufacturing Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift Paper
The Manufacturing Manager reports to the General Manager and is responsible for overall plant operations, including production, quality, and related activities.
Key Responsibilities and Functions :
- Plant Management : Direct and manage day-to-day operations to meet or exceed customer expectations, focusing on increasing production, asset capacity, reducing waste and cost, and maintaining quality. This includes strategic planning, resource allocation, monitoring operations, managing expenses, and driving continuous improvement programs.
- Leadership and People Development : Spend significant time on the production floor to identify improvement opportunities and engage with the team. Serve as a dedicated mentor and coach to direct reports and all production staff to develop skills, foster career growth, and cultivate future leaders within the organization. Recruit, manage, develop plant staff, drive training initiatives, communicate company goals, and foster a "customer focused" environment. Responsibilities also include performance evaluations, managing shift hand-overs, and administering disciplinary actions.
- Safety : Commit to and ensure the overall safety of the plant, promoting safety as a key strategic initiative, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols / OSHA standards, and proactively driving continuous improvement for safety.
- Production Oversight : Oversee daily production, develop production schedules, authorize overtime, ensure efficient machine operation, maximize profits, and work with the supply chain to optimize schedules.
- Reporting and Analysis : Collect and analyze data to identify areas of waste / overtime, track productivity, prepare management and financial reports (daily, weekly, monthly), and troubleshoot / solve production problems in real-time.
- Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction : Actively identify and implement process improvements to minimize downtime, increase efficiencies, and find cost savings. Plan and implement annual cost reduction activities and lead lean events / initiatives.
Candidate Requirements and Qualifications :
Education / Experience : Minimum of 5 years related experience / training in a manufacturing environment. Bachelor's Degree in business, engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience). Lean and / or Six Sigma experience a bonus.Skills : Proven technical and leadership ability, strong continuous improvement background, superior problem-solving and coaching capabilities, excellent communication (written and oral), strong organizational and time management skills, ability to create accountability, and adequate knowledge of business / management principles (budgeting, strategic planning). Proficiency in Google Suite and ERP experience are required by some listings.Physical Demands and Work Environment : The role involves regular standing, walking, and occasional lifting / moving up to 50 pounds. The work environment exposes the employee to moving mechanical parts, variations in climate (hot / humid, cool), and usually loud noise levels.Qualified candidates should be quick decision-makers, handle conflict effectively, excel at coaching and developing their team members, and create a positive culture focused on improvement. Individuals are expected to spend a significant amount of time on the production floor. Individuals should be available periodically to support all three shifts.
