Position Overview
This position provides direct support and advocacy for Roadrunner Food Bank’s (RRFB) network of tribal partners and the communities they serve. The position serves as the tribal liaison, advocate, and capacity builder for agency partners in their hunger relief efforts. The position backs the overall strategic goal of RRFB to support community partnerships while being the catalyst for food sovereignty development in tribal communities and agencies who service Native Americans with the goal of building sustainable and hunger-free Pueblos, Apache Tribes, and Navajo Nation communities and providing access to healthy and nutritious food.
This position is Grant Funded under FY23 Feeding America Partner Network Services Assessment Implementation and HB-1 funding through June 30, 2027 . The continuation of the position after June 30, 2027, is dependent on the securing of additional funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Under minimal supervision, travels to various tribal and non-tribal agencies in and around the Navajo Nation, Pueblo communities, and Apache Tribes to support the sustainability of food distributions
- Provides partner onboarding / training and initial distribution setup
- Monitors partnering agencies to ensure sites are following food safety guidelines and monthly reporting requirements
- Serves as the tribal liaison, advocate, and capacity builder for the RRFB network of tribal and non-tribal agency partners.
- Builds relationships and collaborative partnerships with tribal and non-tribal community organizations, businesses, local and federal government agencies, and resources to meet the food access needs of Native Americans experiencing hunger and food access limitations
- Supports the idea of food sovereignty development in tribal communities through partnership with Native American-serving agencies and / or RRFB initiatives
- Supports the Director of Tribal Relations with the development and execution of community needs assessments to determine food access, food insecurity, and culturally appropriate food preferences
- Provides management and supervision of volunteers and partner agency staff during food distributions as needed
- Prepares proposals, reports, presentations, training documents, and other materials in support of position responsibilities
- Supports occasional distribution management during large scale and holiday food distributions
- Provides insight and management of yearly budgeting development
- Supports the planning and implementation of a newly created tribal program

This position will require extensive travel to various tribal communities throughout New Mexico.
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent relevant experience working with tribal governments and / or Native American led organizationsRelated experience in social services and / or non-profitsMust have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under our existing policy for use of a company vehicleCommitment to serving Native American populationsKnowledge of New Mexico tribal governments and how to effectively conduct business interactionsKnowledge of tribal cultures in New MexicoCultural knowledge and sensitivity to working with sovereign nationsHighly organized with superior attention to detail and excellent follow-up skillsAbility to think strategically to resolve problemsAbility to work collaboratively with programmatic teams and amongst diverse people and groupsExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including group facilitation skillsPositive attitude and ability to work as part of a team or independentlyAbility to travel statewide with occasional overnight travelProficiency with Microsoft Office environment and standard office equipmentPreferred Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience
