Overview

This is a Controls Engineer role focused on electrical controls and automation for large-scale production operations. The position involves designing, developing, and delivering cutting-edge solutions to support process automation, capacity expansion, and new product innovation. You will lead teams and contribute to the future of manufacturing technology.

Base pay range

$80,000.00 / yr - $120,000.00 / yr

Location : Hayward, MN. Travel : Up to 25%.

What You'll Do

  • Lead projects—take ownership of complex automation and electrical control projects, driving design, development, and implementation of advanced equipment systems.
  • Innovate—use Rockwell Automation, AutoCAD, and other modern engineering tools to bring machines and systems to life.
  • Deliver results—ensure smooth project handoffs, provide training to plant personnel, deliver documentation, and ensure systems are fully operational.
  • Lead & mentor—guide and develop technicians, contractors, and junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Ensure excellence—drive compliance with safety, legal, and regulatory standards while delivering efficient, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Improve continuously—champion process improvement initiatives to optimize engineering performance and support long-term innovation.

    • What We're Looking For

  • Strong technical skills with electrical and controls engineering tools (Rockwell Automation suites, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Proven ability to manage projects and lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP), or ability to earn within 18 months
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Prior experience in machine controls engineering, preferably within the food or high-volume manufacturing industry
  • Expertise in HMI development, PLC / PAC programming, motion control, and machine vision
  • Experience managing direct reports and / or leading engineering teams
