Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with floating to Oncology Medical-Surgical units, requiring EPIC charting experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a locked, corrections PCU within a secure hospital setting
  • Float as needed to Oncology Medical-Surgical units based on staffing
  • Patient population includes inmates with active oncology diagnoses, oncology workups, post-surgical needs, and various medical conditions such as COPD and sepsis
  • Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 3 for PCU and 1 : 4-5 for Med Surg
  • CO (Corrections Officer) to inmate ratio is 1 : 2
  • Shifts include rotating 12-hour days or nights depending on unit needs, with assignments reviewed every 4 weeks
  • Medication management via Pyxis and documentation using EPIC are required
  • Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, IV therapy, tracheostomy, and non-invasive airway management
  • Oncology experience is preferred but not required
  • Training and support provided by interdisciplinary teams such as pharmacy, physical therapy, and rapid response
  • Work in a locked, secure correctional environment with strict staff safety standards
  • Fingerprinting for Ohio is required and must be completed promptly after booking
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Holidays may be scheduled based on unit needs
  • Scrub requirements not specified

    • Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Experience in PCU, Medical-Surgical, or Telemetry settings required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • At least 2 professional references are required, including 1 from a supervisor or manager
  • Previous employees must have a 6-month separation to be eligible
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are not eligible
