About the Role

As a Middle School History Teacher , you will be part of a dynamic team that empowers students to become self-guided learners. You will develop subject mastery while navigating the socio-emotional changes that middle school students experience. Your history classes will not only teach facts but will also empower students’ voices and cultivate global citizens through :

  • Engaging Instruction : Facilitate student-led discussions, encouraging debate and critical thinking.
  • Data-Driven Decisions : Analyze student work and assessments to tailor your teaching strategies.
  • Positive School Culture : Build strong relationships with students and families to foster a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction :
  • Facilitate discussions on historical topics, guiding students through open-ended questions and peer debates.

  • Teach an inclusive curriculum that highlights diverse histories and perspectives.
  • Create a safe space for students to express their evidence-based opinions.
  • Data Analysis :
  • Collaborate weekly with your principal and / or instructional coach to analyze student performance.

  • Implement differentiated instruction strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • School Culture :
  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and heard.

  • Engage in professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Participate in school-wide meetings to foster community and encourage student achievement.
  • Qualifications

  • A commitment to supporting students’ social-emotional and academic growth.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks feedback to improve.
  • Required Experience :
  • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban settings preferred.

  • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration, but candidates must meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements.

    Compensation

    The salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $80,000 , based on factors such as relevant teaching experience and educational qualifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience can expect a starting salary of $56,000.
