Principal Accountant

The City of Laramie is seeking a Principal Accountant to join our dedicated finance team. Under limited direction, the Principal Accountant will perform a wide range of responsible, confidential, and professional accounting, budgeting, and finance-related duties. This role will also serve as a liaison between City departments, staff, outside agencies, and the public, while taking a leadership role in managing and improving transaction processing systems. As a Principal Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the City's financial integrity and transparency, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting the implementation of key financial strategies. Duties & Responsibilities :

• Plan, prioritize, and deliver accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting services for the City of Laramie. Independently manage your workload with minimal daily direction while meeting multiple deadlines and ensuring accuracy.
• Review, reconcile, and analyze the general ledger for appropriate coding. Process transactions, prepare financial reports, analyze financial events, and make necessary journal entries or adjustments to accounting records.
• Proactively identify potential issues and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
• Lead and assist with the implementation and management of accounting software within assigned functions. Oversee the technical setup, workflow design, and system module maintenance. Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to optimize efficiency.
• Work closely with the Finance Manager or designee to prepare essential financial reports, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, Recommended Budget, and State Census. Support the preparation of internal financial reports, such as monthly financial statements.

Qualifications :
