Office of Councilmember Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Council, 4th District

Legislative Deputy / Legislative Director

The Office of Councilmember Nithya Raman is seeking a thoughtful, hard-working, and compassionate team member to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment as a Legislative Deputy or Legislative Director on our Legislative Team.

Public policy, legal, and government experience are valued, as is specific subject-matter expertise in some of the most pressing issue-areas dealt with by the Los Angeles City Council, including economic development, municipal budgeting, city charter reform and governance, environmental sustainability, and public infrastructure. Most important is that you are self-starting, energetic, and dedicated to bringing about a better Los Angeles through proactive changes in public policy at the local level.

Position responsibilities include :

  • Managing the execution of Councilmember Raman's legislative agenda;
  • Drafting legislative materials, such as City Council motions and resolutions;
  • Conducting research in various policy areas;
  • Briefing the Councilmember on items before the City Council;
  • Staffing the Councilmember at select City Council and Committee meetings;
  • Interfacing with City Council offices, City departments, and external organizations; and
  • Collaborating in the development of the Councilmembers legislative agenda.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Excellent time-management skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple sets of responsibilities simultaneously in a high-pressure environment;
  • Experience in government, policy advocacy, research, municipal budget analysis, and / or law; and
  • A strong, demonstrated commitment to social justice work.
  • The position is full-time and exempt from Civil Service.
