The Volunteer Engagement Specialist will recruit, retain, and engages volunteers as well as contribute to the overall mission of St. Mary’s Food Bank. This position located primarily at our Surprise, AZ facility.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to :
Volunteer Coordination and Support
- Collaborate with the Surprise Operations Manager to support staff and volunteers.
- Assess site-specific volunteer needs, ensure appropriate assignments, and promote an engaging experience to maximize retention.
- Schedule and onboard volunteers, provide training, and supervise their activities to meet department goals.
- Address and mediate concerns between volunteers or between volunteers and staff.
Recruitment and Engagement
Strategize and implement volunteer recruitment plans, including outreach at fairs and events.Develop partnerships with local agencies to secure a steady flow of corporate and programmatic volunteers (e.g., AARP).Facilitate orientations, tours, and volunteer recognition programs.Administrative and Reporting Duties
Maintain accurate volunteer records using SMFBA’s Volunteer Hub software.Prepare monthly reports on activities, initiatives, and outcomes.Handle communications, including email and phone confirmations with volunteer groups.Capture volunteer photos for social media and coordinate with the Community Relations team.Event and Special Project Management
Recruit volunteers for special events and annual projects.Promote the Food Bank and volunteer opportunities at corporate and school functions as needed.Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all internal / external customers of St. Mary’s Food Bank with an excellent service experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree is preferred1-2 years’ experience working with volunteers or in a similar environment.Be able to lift and / or move up to 30 pounds.Experience speaking to large groups.Solid verbal and written communication skills.Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office products.Must have the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Volunteer Engagement Department.What we offer : Pay is $20 / hr.
