Salary range :

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and / or step at appointment. See Table 1 . The salary range for this position is $78,200-$205,400. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Anticipated start :

July 1, 2026, with the academic year beginning in August 2026. Degree requirement must be met no later than June 30, 2027 for employment beyond that date.

Position duration :

This is a tenure track position.

Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Merced invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Biochemistry at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.

We seek innovative scientists whose research addresses fundamental biochemical questions using experimental, computational, or interdisciplinary approaches. All areas of biochemistry will be considered, including (but not limited to) enzymology, structural biology, metabolic biochemistry, chemical biology, and biomolecular interactions. Candidates whose research complements and strengthens existing departmental expertise and fosters collaborative opportunities across campus are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to :

• Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry and related fields.

Mentor students at all levels and contribute to a diverse, inclusive academic environment.
