Job Description

Our client is seeking compassionate and reliable Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to support students with intensive special education needs across multiple specialized programs. This role provides individualized assistance with personal care, mobility, behavior management, and academic engagement under the supervision of certified staff. Students served may have emotional, behavioral, physical, or developmental disabilities and require support beyond what is typical in general education settings.

Program Overview

PCAs may be assigned to one of the following specialized programs :

Emotional Support (Grades K-12) : High-intensity behavioral needs; environments may be fast-paced and require physical intervention
Low Incidence (Ages 5-21) : Students with multiple disabilities and complex medical or physical needs
County Alternative (Ages 15-21) : High school students requiring emotional and behavioral support
Early Intervention (Ages 3-5) : Preschool-aged children with developmental delays and behavioral challenges

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one or small group support during classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, and transportation

Assist with daily living activities including toileting, feeding, dressing, hygiene, and mobility

Implement behavior intervention plans and IEP goals as directed by certified staff

Modify instructional materials and activities to meet individual student needs

Monitor and document student behavior, progress, and incidents

Encourage independence and social interaction through modeling and positive reinforcement

Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school staff to ensure consistent support strategies

Participate in IEP meetings, team discussions, and professional development sessions

Respond appropriately to medical or behavioral emergencies following established protocols

Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all student interactions

Qualifications

Required :

High school diploma or GED

Experience working with children, preferably in a school or special education setting

Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills

Preferred :

Post-secondary coursework in education, psychology, or a related field

Experience supporting students with behavioral or physical challenges

Familiarity with IEPs and behavior intervention strategies
