STATUS : Full time Tenure track

DEPARTMENT : Public Services

DIVISION : Academic Affairs

CLASSIFICATION : Exempt

UNION : Faculty-AFT Local 604

REPORTS TO : Department Chair and Academic Dean

PLACEMENT : Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications

HIRING RANGE : Base Compensation Hiring Range for 2025 / 2026 Academic Year : $61,912-$110,322 / annually (9 months)

Compensation placement based on education and related teaching / work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Law Enforcement Faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in law enforcement and related courses, developing and maintaining curriculum aligned with state and federal standards, and actively engaging in departmental and institutional service. The faculty member collaborates with colleagues to assess student learning and promote student success. This position requires a commitment to teaching excellence, continuous professional development, and service to a diverse student body. Willingness to teach at multiple campus sites and in various formats, including online and hybrid modalities, is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Develop, update, and deliver curriculum in law enforcement and related courses in accordance with departmental and college standards.

2.Prepare course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments consistent with approved course outlines.

3.Engage in student learning assessment at the course and program levels; analyze results and implement improvements.

4.Advise and mentor students regarding academic and career pathways in law enforcement and related fields.

5.Participate actively in departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings, committees, and professional development activities.

6.Maintain currency in the discipline through continuing education and professional engagement.

7.Comply with departmental and institutional policies regarding grading, attendance, textbook selection, and FERPA.

8.Contribute to program review, accreditation processes, and curriculum development to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

9.Foster an inclusive classroom environment that respects diversity and promotes student success.

10.Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and Academic Dean.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.Master's degree in law enforcement, public administration, or a closely related field.

2.Successful completion of a state-recognized law enforcement academy.

3.Minimum of five (5) years full-time experience as a municipal, county, state, or federal certified peace officer, with relevant training and field expertise.

4.Effective oral and written communication skills.

5.Ability to work positively with diverse populations and build collaborative relationships within the college community.

6.Proficiency in the use of instructional technology.

7.Commitment to teaching and continuous improvement in instructional practices.

8.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

9.Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.Ten (10) years or more of full-time experience as a certified peace officer.

2.Five (5) years or more of full-time experience in a Law Enforcement Supervisory Role.

3.Demonstrated experience in planning or overseeing programs or projects that involve resource allocation, program evaluation, or organizational effectiveness.

4.Completion of instructor training coursework at a recognized state or federal institution (e.g., FBI Academy, Police Training Institute, Northwestern Traffic Institute, Illinois State Police Academy).

5.English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

6.Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1.Standard classroom and instructional technology use.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.Primarily classroom, laboratory, and occasional field or simulation environments; may require travel between campus sites and community locations.
