Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting leadership opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at our headquarters, where you'll shape strategy, drive innovation, and lead a talented team of engineers.

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. We provide cradle-to-grave services for primary and secondary composite structures. This position is located in our HQ San Diego, CA office and reports to the SVP of Engineering.

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager will lead Rock West Composites’ manufacturing engineering team, driving new product introductions, validation, and qualification. Acting as the bridge between engineering and production, this role ensures smooth product launches, efficient processes, and high-quality results that support the growth of the business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the manufacturing engineering function and processes across the business unit.
  • Manages, delegates, and plans the workload and achievement of tasks and deadlines for the business unit. Provides and tracks metrics to insure on-time completion of requirements.
  • Oversees the action plan for each area for development of New Product Introduction activities, Work Instruction / Work Traveler packages, Item Masters and review of recurring orders for engineering change management. Position is ultimately responsible for ensuring department commitments and requirements are met for internal and external customers.
  • Ensures manufacturing engineering support and guidance is provided to all company functions, e.g. Program Management, Operations, QA / QE, etc. to facilitate production and to ensure product integrity and customer delivery requirements.
  • Resolves complex engineering & operational related problems, using new techniques, technologies, or concepts as needed.
  • Provides timely communication to management and internal / external customers on developments, which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and / or inter-departmental relations.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies, which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.
  • Performs employee development functions; coaches for improved performance, identifies / develops high potential employees, conducts performance evaluations, progressive counseling and recommends compensation increases within company guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Structural or Materials Engineering or 15 years of composite manufacturing experience. MBA or relevant master’s degree is a plus.
  • 15 or more years of experience leading Manufacturing Engineering teams preferably in a Tier 1 or 2 aerospace companies.
  • Basic knowledge of AS9100 quality management system. Understand, follow and adhere to corporate Quality Management System on a daily basis
  • Strong background in aerospace composite structures manufacturing including detail parts and assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience with composite part fabrication, assembly, and aerospace fabrication processes (composites, metal bond, metallic forming, machining)
  • Familiarity with Prime contractor specifications and composites product qualification processes (ex., First Part Qualifications, Thermal Profiles)
  • Proficiency with CAD / CAM tools, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and model interrogation.
  • Experience with both contact and non-contact inspection methods, as well as data acquisition systems (temperature, position, pressure).
  • Knowledge of ERP / MRP systems (SAP, NetSuite, etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
  • Experience completing bids, proposals, and supporting new business development activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage multiple programs, and adapt in fast-paced, changing environments.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, verbal, and analytical communication skills, with a proven track record of driving tasks to completion.

    The pay range for this position falls within $140,000-$200,000 annually. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
