Current ACLS certification .\n\nROLE PURPOSE : Administer nursing care to patients in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner using appropriate nursing procedures. The nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. The nurse must also possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's clinical needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures. The nurse must be clinically competent to care for patients, knowledgeable about disease processes, and be able to identify symptoms and / or signs of complications. Understanding of telemetry monitoring and maintains a knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation.\n\n
Supervises non-professional staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Makes work assignments, assists with priority setting, and acts as a resource for less experienced staff.\n\n
Assists physicians in care of the patients. Makes rounds, assists with procedures, provides progress reports on patient status, and assures that orders are carried out in a timely manner.\n\n
Follows procedure for medication administration and processes for controlled substances. Utilizes EMAR including scanning all medications and armbands.\n\n
Assume professional responsibility for assuring patient care is of the highest standards. Communicates questions about appropriateness of medical or nursing care through chain of command as needed.\n\n
Participates in in-service programs as both student and teacher. Takes initiative and primary responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills current.\n\n
Participates in departmental meetings, resuscitation drills and other educational opportunities.\n\n
Assists in peer and staff evaluations, data collection, and chart reviews as requested.\n\n
Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.\n\n
Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested when the need arises.\n\n
Initiates a patient plan of care on admission including co-morbidities and revises as needed based on patient care standards.\n\n
Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary, to provide optimal care and meet the needs of the unit.\n\n
Maintains a knowledge of the patient's status during hospitalization and works with health care team to adjust and improve approach to care. Utilizes critical thinking skills for appropriate patient interventions.\n\n
Evaluates interventions appropriately and assesses the effectiveness of care. Communicates and re-evaluates as needed.\n\n
Documents nursing care in a timely and accurate manner.\n\n
