Key Responsibilities
- Enforce federal, state, and municipal laws
- Identify and apprehend offenders, participate in court proceedings
- Conduct preventive patrols to reduce crime opportunities
- Assist individuals in danger and manage public safety incidents
- Facilitate safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic
- Investigate and report potential law enforcement or governmental issues
- Engage with community members to promote safety and trust
- Maintain public peace and good order through a community-oriented policing philosophy
- Complete all duties in accordance with legal and constitutional standards
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Education And Qualifications

Competitive salary range of $32.15 - $41.52 per hour depending on experience. Education, Military Experience, Physical Fitness, and Foreign Language Proficiency stipends available.Hiring Incentive Bonus of $14,000 for BLETP Graduates with 5 years of experience and out-of-state lateral hires (no service requirement).This position is covered by the Westbrook Police Association collective bargaining agreement.A comprehensive benefits package includes medical (PPO plan with 12% premium cost, plus HRA reimbursement), dental, vision, life insurance (one times base salary), short and long-term disability, and employee assistance program.Generous paid leave including vacation, sick, and 13 holidays per year.Tuition reimbursement for job-related courses.Retirement program of the Maine Public Employees Retirement Plan (Maine PERS) or defined 457 with matching up to 6%.Application Process
