Job descriptionDemonstrates thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology. Familiar with and adheres to Departmental Protocols and Policy and Procedures of UNC Healthcare System. Obtains RT(R) credentials and maintains Active Status. Uses technical knowledge to assist in troubleshooting work unit problems related to equipment and protocols. Shares knowledge with employees and students in the work unit. Ensures patient demographic, emulsion markers, and examination requested are correct. Critiques, orients, and saves all pertinent images. Transmits QA-ed images to PACS and ensures all images reach PACS. Documents completion and / or cancellation of all procedures in RIS, including comments when appropriate. Maintains image management equipment and reports equipment problems. Utilizes PACS and HIS systems to obtain additional study data. Performs work in a timely manner and produces quality radiographic images consistently. Analyzes requests and draws appropriate conclusions for examination and action plan. Reviews radiographic orders and images and correlates patient demographic information for accuracy. Reviews daily schedule and status of patients waiting for examinations. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Documents incidents and advises area supervisor of improvement opportunities. Uses RIS, CIS, PACS, and SMS effectively to access information and document procedure status. Modifies necessary orders for appropriateness and completes exams in RIS System. Quality controls and transmits information to PACS, verifying proper arrival. Verifies patient identity and obtains patient history relevant to examination order. Verifies pregnancy status before administering ionizing radiation. Assesses patients' physical condition and develops action plan for examination. Assesses patients’ conditions to determine if additional medical personnel or equipment is needed and takes appropriate action. Assists patients requiring extra attention and reacts to emergency situations to ensure patient safety. No prior experience required. RT(R) credentials required and must maintain Active Status.
