PICU Travel Nurse Job Details
Estimated Weekly Salary : $2,090 - $2,140 per week
Assignment Length : 13 weeks
Start Dates : 11 / 10 / 2025 or 11 / 24 / 2025
Healthcare Setting : Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Nursing Shifts : 12-hour nights (19 : 00 – 07 : 00); straight nights or rotating shifts available
Hours per Week : 36
Weekend Coverage : Every other weekend required
Holiday Coverage : Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
Patient Ratios : 1 : 1 or 1 : 2, based on acuity
Unit Size : 25 beds; average daily census of 23
Floating : May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics within scope of practice
PICU RN Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN experience
Active Registered Nurse license (Virginia or compact state); pending license accepted if in hand by Wednesday before start date
BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required
Epic charting experience preferred
Pediatric cardiac experience is a plus
BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) preferred
Professional references required
Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
PICU Nurse Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients, including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
Manage complex medical and cardiac cases, including post-operative, trauma, and transplant patients
Perform advanced clinical skills such as ventilator management, arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration
Monitor and interpret vital signs, hemodynamics, and cardiac dysrhythmias
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team including physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and social workers
Float to NICU or Acute Care Pediatrics as needed within nursing scope of practice
Participate in unit-based orientation and complete required training modules
