Campus Safety Patrol Officer
The Campus Safety Patrol Officer is a key member of the university's Public Safety team, responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Officers conduct proactive patrols, respond to incidents and emergencies, enforce university policies, and provide exceptional service to the campus community. This role requires professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to community-oriented safety practices. The Campus Safety Patrol Officer reports to the Shift Supervisor / Director of Public Safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Patrol campus grounds and buildings via foot, vehicle, or bicycle to ensure safety and security.
- Conduct routine safety checks of facilities and residence halls, securing access points as needed.
- Respond promptly to calls for service, alarms, and emergency situations.
- Provide safety escorts for students, faculty, and staff upon request.
- Direct traffic and enforce parking regulations in accordance with university policy.
- Support Shift Supervisors in daily operations and follow directives as assigned.
- Complete detailed incident reports prior to shift change.
- Enforce university rules, regulations, and policies with fairness and consistency.
- May be required to work independently during emergency situations or periods of limited supervision.
- Foster a welcoming and respectful environment through professional and courteous interactions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Familiarity with crime prevention strategies, community policing principles, and de-escalation techniques.Understanding of university operations, student development, and campus culture.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset.Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations.Commitment to the mission and values of the university and the Public Safety department.Job Requirements : Education, Experience and Skills :
High school diploma or equivalent required.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Must successfully pass a criminal background check.Ability to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification within six months of hire (training provided).Physically capable of performing foot patrols, climbing stairs, and responding to emergencies.Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment after completion of training.Salary / Hours / Benefits :
Minimum Pay Rate : $16.50 / hour
