Senior Building Inspector (Combination)
The City of Pasadena is looking for a Senior Building Inspector (Combination) to act as a lead to perform inspections of complex construction projects for multifamily residential, mixed use occupancies, commercial buildings, industrial complexes, single-family residential and other structures to ensure compliance with state and local building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, housing and zoning codes and ordinances.
The ideal candidate has experience in conducting building inspections for a governmental jurisdiction, inspecting architectural, structural, and Accessibility compliance for commercial and residential occupancies; has the ability to work in a lead capacity, is detail-oriented, dependable, and has excellent decision-making ability. The candidate should be thoroughly familiar with the California Building Code Standards (Title-24 of the California Code of Regulations and Cal Green standards) and construction methods for a variety of construction types. Ability to read, interpret, and apply general and detailed information on design and construction plans, calculations, and reports. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and safety hazards related to conducting building inspections.
Experience with the use of electronic devices including handheld devices and software for permitting and plan reading is highly desirable.

The selection process will consist of a training and experience evaluation, an interview panel, a department-level interview. VACANCY INFORMATION There is currently one vacancy in the Building and Safety Division of the Planning and Community Development Department. The resulting eligibility from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one year probationary work period.
Special Requirements
Must have or obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must provide an operable motor vehicle for the purpose of performing field inspections and other related duties. Will be required to obtain a certificate as a Commercial Building Inspector from the International Code Council (ICC) within twelve (12) months of the initial appointment date.
