Adheres to all administrative and clinical practice policies and proceduresObtains and records patient medical history and maintains medical records and all documentationOperates ophthalmic equipment for patient’s eye exam.Maintains the examination room to include clean, safe, and organized.Performs special ophthalmic tests for patients as requested by Ophthalmologist including but not limited to visual acuity measurement, refractory, tonometry, measure pupil size and reactivity, test and measure eye muscle function, visual field testing, corneal thickness and curvature measurements, corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurement, and retinal thickness and topography.Performs fluorescein angiography and B-scan ultrasonography.Prepares for and assists with in-office procedures.Explains pre- and post-operative procedures to patients.May assist with surgical procedures as directed by the provider.Provides clerical and administrative assistance as needed or assigned.Triages patients appropriately based on appointment time and acuity of problemAssures patients are prepared for doctor and maintains smooth, efficient flow throughout clinicMust be able to travel between offices, as needed, to staff other clinics.Serves as lead worker to Ophthalmic Assistants. Performs tasks that the eye care provider delegates to them. Gathers historical medical information, takes measurements, and performs ancillary tests that provide the doctor with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. Assists with documentation and patient services. Performs diagnostic test and assist with in-office or surgical procedures.
Qualifications
Education :
Required : High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred : Certification of Surgical Technician and / or Completion of COA or COT Training Program
Certifications :
Required : Active CPR / BLSthrough an AHA accredited program or agency.
Experience :
Required : At least 1 year of ophthalmic assistant experience
Preferred : Some leadership experience in ophthalmology setting
