Claims Trainer (Workers' Compensation Adjudicator 4)

L&I Claims Administration within Insurance Services has an exciting opportunity for you to become a Claims Trainer (Workers' Compensation Adjudicator 4). In this dynamic role, you will help staff become strategic thinkers and pass your claims knowledge on to newly hired adjudicators in Insurance Services claims units. As a Claims Trainer you will also conduct in-service training classes for all levels of adjudicators, vocational and nursing consultants, field staff, and other department staff.

Some of what you'll do :

  • Use analytical and soft skills to train and mentor a strategic approach to claim management
  • Act as a technical resource on complex claim management issues for staff who administer benefits under Title 51
  • Provide training and coaching to staff to ensure consistent application of policies and laws
  • Consult with other resources (coaches / mentors, claim consultants, pension adjudicators, occupational nurse consultants, etc.) to address training needs and provide a consistent message
  • Interact with Claims Administration, Employer Services, RTW Partnerships, Legal Services and Self-Insurance to maintain and improve consistency between programs
  • Serve as a technical resource for Workers' Compensation Adjudicators on procedures involving the use of BPS, ORION, LINIIS and ECS
  • Participate in developing strategies to ensure strategic approaches to claim management and address Quality Assurance issues and improvements

Required :

  • Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers' Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program AND
  • One year of experience as a Workers' Compensation Adjudicator 3 OR
  • A Bachelor's degree AND
  • Three years of experience in adjudicating workers' or crime victims' compensation insurance claims or adjudication of time loss payments OR
  • Equivalent education / experience.
  • Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Comfortable facilitating and training large groups, using adult learning styles and effective training delivery techniques
  • Ability to run presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint or similar software
  • A strategic thinker with analytic and soft skills, focused on reducing work disability and helping workers heal and return to work
  • A thorough working knowledge of the Washington State Industrial Insurance Laws as specified in Washington Administrative Code, case law, department policies and medical terminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Provide information, techniques, instruction, feedback and encouragement
  • Teach, mentor and encourage others to maximize their success on the job
  • Team focused approach, ability to contribute to the development and cohesiveness of the team
  • Open, honest, professional and approachable with strong interpersonal skills
  • Effectively manage your time by setting priorities and adjusting when priorities change
  • Use a personal computer with multiple drives
  • A thorough working knowledge of BPS, ORION, LINIIS and ECS
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Current skills presenting difficult topics
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times

    For this position, telework is dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. Employees in this position will work a minimum of two days in office. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater, Washington.

    For positions where in-office work is necessary, the frequency of telework will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.
