DNV Energy’s Electrical Engineering team is seeking a  Senior Electrical Engineer  to help shape the direction and application of the services provided by our Renewables and Power Grids group by contributing to high-impact renewable energy and energy transition projects.

You will work alongside a team of seasoned experts delivering technical due diligence and advisory support across Independent Engineering (debt and tax equity), Markets & Acquisitions (M&A), Owner’s Engineering, and Electrical Engineering consulting engagements in the North American market and beyond.

In this role, you will apply your expertise in power systems, electronics, controls, and instrumentation to support project design, development, and construction. You will contribute to a dynamic, high performing team by driving innovation, delivering customer value, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and identifying opportunities for team growth and improvement.

This position can be located in our Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Medford, MA; Oakland, CA; San Diego, CA; Portland, OR; and Seattle, WA offices, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location / site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process. Other DNV offices may also be considered.

What You’ll do

  • Depending on your skills and interests, you’ll contribute to a wide range of technical and strategic initiatives, which include :
  • Act and lead as a collaborative Electrical Engineering subject matter expert across projects
  • Author and review technical reports cross organizationally with internal teams (Independent Engineering, M&A Advisory, Owner’s Engineering)
  • Critically assess transmission, substation, and collection system designs, with a focus on safety, cost, and functionality
  • Lead proposal development and manage small to medium-sized consulting projects
  • Drive business development by identifying client needs, shape service offerings, and cultivate long-term relationships with key accounts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, prototype, and deploy AI-powered tools that support engineering analysis, automation, and decision-making
  • Contribute to market positioning and thought leadership (committees, conferences, webinars, whitepapers, blog posts)
  • Review electrical designs and associated studies for solar, onshore / offshore wind, high-voltage substations, and other electric system components
  • Perform or review power system studies (grounding, reactive power, cable ampacity, collection system design)
  • Provide guidance and training in electrical commissioning, safety, and procedures
  • Participate in field and analytical work across the full spectrum of electric power systems, with frequent interaction with turbine, solar, energy analysis, environmental, and civil engineering experts

The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. For the states of California, Washington, New York, Washington, ., Illinois, and Maryland only, the starting pay range for this role is $115,000 - $165,000.

What is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 7+ years’ relevant experience in renewable energy projects (for example : wind, solar, battery, hydrogen, and / or power electronics)
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE or PEng)
  • Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, NEC, and CIGRE standards and guidelines
  • Experience in electrical system design and construction (distribution, substation, generation) and electrical system studies / modelling
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or other platforms used in engineering analytics , complemented with AI accelerators
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in the English language

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited university
  • Knowledge of protection, controls, and SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of bulk electric system operations, reliability standards, and regulations
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for AI, machine learning, and digital tools that enhance engineering workflows and decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and timely delivery of engineering consulting projects
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage client-facing engagements
  • A valid Drivers License
  • Willingness to travel 25% domestically (more if desired)
