Summary

Hospital in Central Indiana, has developed a clinical collaboration agreement with the Network in Indianapolis. The purpose of this collaboration is to expand the market presence and strength of both organizations in the suburbs of Central Indiana.

This collaboration is creating the development of a number of program and service expansions in the County, mutually supported by the Hospital and Network.

One area of targeted expansion for 2012 is the growth of orthopedic surgery coverage with a specific focus on developing a stronger array of sports medicine services.

Plans are underway to development a three-story, 70,000 square foot outpatient health pavilion that will house significant space devoted to sports medicine and physical rehabilitation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the creation and development of this service line, beginning in August of 2012.

The physician will be an employee of the Hospital Orthopedic Care Center, located in Suburban Indianapolis, Indiana, but will spend a share of their time serving the northern community and helping lead the development of this new service line.

The physician selected will also have the support of the resources of the flagship hospital for the Network.

Hospital

The hospital is county-owned and has served the citizens of the County immediately near Indianapolis since 1947. With just over 125 staffed beds the hospital has a number of specialty programs. Among them are a comprehensive cancer service, breast center, cath and peripheral vascular lab, cardiovascular testing center, sleep center, wound care center, diabetes care program, spine surgery service, pain care center, acute rehabilitation center, orthopedic services, critical and progressive care units and a renal dialysis center on the campus.

The hospital initiated a $12.5 million expansion and renovation of its Surgery Department in early 2011. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2012. When completed, the project will provide a designated entrance for all surgery patients, enlarged surgery suites with updated equipment and technology and private pre- and post-op waiting and recovery rooms for all patients. The Endoscopy Suite will also be expanded and updated, with private pre- and post-procedure rooms for all patients. The second floor of the project will house the new offices of the County Women's Care Group, the hospital owned OB / GYN practice, which is in the process of expanding as well.

In 2011 Hospital began a focused effort to create exclusive alignments with area high schools to better serve their athletic and sports medicine needs. The hospital provides a physician trained in concussion syndrome for the Community High School. The success of this program has led to discussions between the school district and the hospital to create a more comprehensive sports medicine service beginning in the fall of 2011.

The hospital provides annual sports participation physicals for the three largest high schools in the County and this year added cardiac EKG screenings for a minimal fee. Discussions are underway to secure an exclusive sponsorship arrangement with the county's largest high school that would lead to an exclusive sports medicine relationship. In addition, a member of the medical staff is the team physician for all College athletic teams and plans are being made to initiate a closer relationship with the college in the future to provide sports medicine services.

The hospital is experiencing a steady growth in orthopedic procedures. Nearly 650 were performed in 2009 and we project a volume of over 800 for 2011.
