Description :
Shift Details : 3 shifts of 12 hours each.
Weekend requirements include every other weekend and as needed by the unit.
On-call requirements as needed.
Traveling for more than a year is expected.
May float to other units within the scope of practice.
Depending on needs or census, may float to different campuses.
Notice of approximately 1.5 hours prior to shift start may be given for floating.
A shuttle service is provided if floating is requested.
Skills and Experiences Required :
Accessing ports and managing arterial lines.
Assisting with chest tube insertion and removal.
Management of BiPAP and CPAP.
Blood product administration.
Care of ventilated patients.
Central line care and management.
Chemotherapy administration.
Care of chronic and acute renal failure patients.
Management of continuous IV paralytics and neuromuscular blockade.
Management of continuous IV sedation.
CVA and acute stroke management.
Management of CVVHD and CRRT.
Administration of emergency medications.
Care of external ventricular drain (EVD).
Monitoring using FloTrac and Vigileo.
Managing GI surgeries.
High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) use.
Implementing hypothermia protocols.
Monitoring ICP.
Infection prevention measures.
Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
Management of dysrhythmias.
Implementation of isolation precautions and use of PPE.
Following IV insulin protocols.
Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure.
Obtaining 12 lead EKG and performing phlebotomy.
Management of PICC lines.
Care post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery.
Administration and monitoring of procedural sedation.
Monitoring pulmonary artery lines and performing sheath removal.
Managing spinal cord injury cases.
Initiating and maintaining IV access.
Suctioning patients as required.
Experienced in surgical ICU and care of surgical wounds with drains.
Thermoregulation for hypothermia and hyperthermia.
Titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips.
Management of traumatic brain injury cases.
Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretaries.
Patient demographics include adults and geriatrics.
Daily census averages 12 patients.
The unit comprises 30 beds.
Patient ratios are 2 : 1.
Flexibility and adaptability to unit requirements are essential.
