Associate Research Scientist Part-time Non-exempt

Overview

The Associate Research Scientist will play a key role in product management for ClimateIQ, an AI-driven climate hazard assessment tool. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, product development, and experience with data science and climate risk analysis in cities, especially urban flooding and extreme heat. The Associate Research Scientist will assist the team preparing for the launch of a US and global product, including support for user experience research (UXR), marketing and customer support service to ensure successful adoption and dissemination.

Responsibilities

Lead product management for ClimateIQ, coordinating across modeling, machine learning, and frontend development teams to define priorities, align timelines, and ensure delivery of key milestones.

Plan and facilitate agile workflows, including sprint planning, standups, demos, and retrospectives to keep the team on track and aligned.

Conduct market and competitor research to inform ClimateIQ's national and global product release strategy; synthesize insights into actionable recommendations.

Support user experience research through methods such as interviews, usability testing, and feedback synthesis to iteratively refine product features and requirements.

Advise on product roadmap development and release schedules in collaboration with the project team

Contribute to scientific reporting and stakeholder-facing materials, including technical documentation and engagement strategies.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $40 / hr. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Master?s degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Urban Informatics, GIS, Sustainability Management, or a related field.

Experience with product management and development of data-driven tools.

Experience with geospatial analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) and climate risk modeling.

Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Familiarity with data visualization and interactive mapping tools.
