Maintenance Worker - Senior
The Maintenance Worker - Senior position maintains city rights of ways and any related areas assigned.
Essential Job Functions :
- Performs semiskilled and skilled manual labor tasks to maintain city rights of ways, ditches, canals, and any related areas; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Maintains city rights of ways, to include but not limited to vegetation pushback, sidewalk reclamation, and chemical spraying.
- Performs general grounds maintenance duties; cleans debris from city rights of ways; mows, line trims, loads debris onto trucks, picks up litter, and blows leaves.
- Flags traffic, sets up work zones, assists Crew chief and equipment operators as directed in cross-training staff in a variety of job-related tasks.
- Inspects equipment and tools for proper operating condition; repairs, maintains, and adjusts equipment; follows safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergencies; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Savannah and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
- Loads and unloads tools, construction material, and equipment onto trucks to ensure necessary tools are available for repairs to be made.
- Operates a variety of Semi-heavy equipment to assist crew.
- Trims, shovels, cuts, and cleans up debris and removes vegetation.
- Assists an assigned crew; ensures crew has adequate supplies to complete the assignment.
- Transports vehicles to the city shop for routine maintenance and services as needed.
- Maintains rights of ways, ditches, and all other duties assigned.
- Responds to emergencies after hours and on weekends when needed.
- Serves as a member of the Critical Workforce during hurricanes and other natural disasters.
- Inspects, cleans, and performs routine equipment preventive maintenance; ensures suitable operation condition.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or GED; with a minimum of six (6) months experience in lawn care maintenance or a similar profession; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Some leadership experience is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer / pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
