As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space- delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you'll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

Job Summary

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers' portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Missile Warning, Tracking & Defense (MWTD) Mission Integration Department within DSG provides systems engineering, integration and test (SEIT) support to the Resilient Missile Warning & Tracking (RMWT) acquisition program office (SSC / SYD 84 / MT). The RMWT program is responsible for the full lifecycle development and fielding of a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellation of missile warning and tracking satellites. As the Lead RMWT Ground Systems SEIT Engineer (Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering - Acquisition & Systems Engineering ) , you will provide systems engineering leadership to the Ground Management & Integration (GMI) effort within the RMWT program. The role involves working closely with the acquisition program office (SSC / SYD 84 / MT), RMWT ground contractors and other FFRDC, SE&I and SETA contractors to develop and execute a disciplined systems engineering approach to the GMI technical baseline development. The role encompasses the full range of the systems engineering, integration and test (SEIT) discipline, including requirements and interfaces definition, development of program V&V approach, the application of specialty engineering, ground system transition strategy development, cost, schedule, and risk & opportunity management. In this role you will act as the primary Aerospace liaison to the government for GMI systems engineering.

This is a full-time position based at our either of our facilities located in El Segundo, CA, Colorado Springs, CO or Buckley SFB in Aurora, CO, which requires

100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide technical leadership to GMI development milestone reviews such as System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), etc.
  • Work closely with GMI contractor(s) to ensure requirement decomposition adequacy and to develop the program verification & validation (V&V) approach
  • Proactively identify risk and opportunity trades and present findings to government decision makers; participate in contractor and government risk and opportunity boards
  • Leverage subject matter experts in specialty engineering disciplines to ensure the technical adequacy of the GMI contractor(s) engineering approach; guide teams of SMEs to assess contractor work products for adequacy and adherence to program requirements
  • Provide technical support to interface development, giver / receiver (G / R) management, and technical exchanges with key external organizations
  • Work closely with legacy RMWT contractor(s), GMI contractor(s) and the government to develop and execute a transition strategy from the current RMWT ground baseline to the GMI-developed baseline
  • Work closely with Aerospace management to define GMI SEIT priorities; assist with oversight and management of program staffing and budgets for the Aerospace GMI SEIT line of effort (LOE)
