Position Summary : Infrastructure Manager

Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking an Infrastructure Manager at the Kansas Department of Labor. This position is responsible for managing a staff of 10 responsible for maintaining and modernizing our network, workstations, and phone systems used to support 400 employees located across the state.
Our systems must follow very rigid security standards due to the nature of our data. The agency is routinely audited and must adhere to the strict security requirements established by the US Treasury Department and the Social Security Administration.
The infrastructure team is supported by a Project Management Office, a Data team, Information Security and the Application Development team to ensure all aspects of our operations are meeting the needs of our customers, employees and federal and state security protocols.
Key areas of emphasis for this position include : system performance monitoring and reporting, implementing operational and strategic initiatives (continuous improvement), Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) participation, Cybersecurity, communications and supervision.
This position is responsible for the design and implementation of the KDOL distributed network including Data Center provisioning of servers and virtual platforms, storage subsystems and storage area networks, firewalls and network security components, the KDOL Wide-Area-Network and KDOL desktop infrastructure.
The Infrastructure Manager reports to the Deputy Chief Information Officer. The position is full-time. Hybrid telework options are available with a minimum of 3 days in the office, located in downtown Topeka.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field and five years’ experience in information systems and analysis or seven years’ experience in information systems and analysis.
Additional experience in the areas listed above may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency.
- Three years' experience managing and / or directing an IT operation.
- 3 years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of business processes, management, budgeting, business office operations with focus in data processing, hardware and network design, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems.
- Experience with hardware, software, network design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to apply practical IT solution for specific business challenges.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to IT.
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Experience with vendor management.
- Strong communication skills, initiative; flexibility; and attention to detail.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Knowledge and experience with LANS / WANS; Windows Server Environment; Microsoft SQL phone systems; backup systems; TCP / IP networks;
network / workstation peripherals print servers; firewalls; IT security.
Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license and be available for on-call availability and work outside regular business hours.
