Description
Position Title : Tribal Historic Preservation Officer
Scheduled Hours : Part Time with Various Hours
Reports To : Tribal Chairman
Essential Functions :
- Must submit all reports as required by law.
- Responsible for all phases of program development and implementation
- Establish and maintain relationships with the State and Federal Governments pertaining to all aspects of historic preservation.
- Oversees all contractors engaged by the tribe for activities in the area of historic preservation.
- Develops and directs all historic preservation projects activities and investigations.
- Directly participates in field work for historic preservation projects as necessary.
- Maintains knowledge of all the Federal State and Tribal regulations relevant to historic preservation.
- Participates in workshops and training sessions for the purpose of upgrading skills relevant to job duties.
- Cooperate with Federal and State agencies local governments and private organizations and individuals direct and conduct a comprehensive statewide survey of historic properties and maintain inventories of such properties.
- Identify and nominate eligible properties to the National Register and otherwise administer applications for listing historic properties on the National Register.
- Prepare and implement a comprehensive Tribal lands-wide historic preservation plan.
- Administer the State program or Federal assistance for historic preservation within the State.
- Advise and assist as appropriate Federal and State agencies and local governments in carrying out their historic preservation responsibilities.
- Cooperate with the Secretary of the Interior the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and other Federal and State agencies local governments and organizations and individuals to ensure that historic preservations are taken into consideration at all levels of planning and development.
- Provide public information education and training and technical assistance in historic preservation.
- Consult with appropriate Federal Agencies in accordance with this Act on :
1. Federal undertakings that may affect historical properties;
2. The content and sufficiency of any plans developed to protect manage or to reduce or mitigate harm to such properties.

Qualifications :
Good communication skills both verbal and written.Willingness to travel frequently.Ability to represent the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska in a professional and competent manner.Ability to work well with others.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various Tribal Staff as well as outside agency personnel and the general public.Must be able to work outside for long periods of time in various weather conditions and travel to remote sites.Must be able to lift 50 lbs. bend stoop twist and stand for periods of time without discomfort.Must demonstrate knowledge in history and culture of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska.Basic computer skills.Must have a valid drivers license.Required Experience :
