About the Role
A Miami-based construction and development company is searching for a Senior Development Accountant to take ownership of financial reporting and accounting for a portfolio of real estate development projects. This role is central to the organization's mission of building quality workforce and affordable housing. The position spans the full project lifecycle-from early planning through construction, lease-up, and ultimately stabilization and debt conversion.
The right candidate will bring hands-on expertise in construction draws, cost certifications, and compliance with both public and private funding structures , including significant experience with the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program .
What You'll Do
1. Project Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Maintain complete and accurate books for assigned developments.
- Set up and monitor project budgets, vendor agreements, and change orders in Yardi Voyager .
- Review and code invoices appropriately, ensuring accurate cash flow tracking and vendor aging.
- Reconcile bank accounts and project-level balance sheet accounts (cash, payables, loans, equity, and intercompany).
- Prepare recurring financial statements and detailed budget-to-actual analyses.
2. Draw Requests & Funding Management
Lead preparation and submission of monthly draw requests to lenders, investors, and public entities.Collaborate with contractors, lenders, and the internal development team to resolve draw discrepancies.Maintain and oversee the Notice to Owner (NTO) log , monitor lien releases, and manage payment approvals.3. Lifecycle Support Across Project Phases
Closing : Coordinate funding and documentation, record budgets, and finalize sources of capital.Lease-Up : Ensure operating costs during lease-up are properly included in construction reporting.Stabilization / Conversion : Support audit-related cost certifications, reconcile the general ledger, and prepare schedules for conversion.What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.At least 5 years of professional accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years in real estate development.Specialized Expertise
Proven track record with construction draw preparation and development budget management.LIHTC accounting experience is highly desirable.Skilled with Yardi Voyager and advanced Excel functionality.Core Competencies
