Job Summary
Full Time Float, 40 hours. 5 : 30pm-2am. The schedule will flex Monday through Sunday to provide appropriate coverage for weekdays and weekends. Holiday and on call coverage required.
Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for receiving patients, gathering patient registration information, ordering tests, generating specimen labels, and escorting patients to phlebotomy services. The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy on all patient populations and is responsible for performing a variety of semi-technical and clerical tasks involving specimen receiving, sorting, data entry, record retrieval, filing, typing envelopes, and responding to telephone inquiries for results, testing, general information, and routing of other calls.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Phlebotomy Supervisor and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual's intellectual level and physical ability.

Essential Functions
Obtain blood specimens by capillary or venipuncture technique using appropriate technique from patients of any age or population.
Follow proper procedures for special collections.
Demonstrates commitment to patient and departmental needs and goals through flexibility in scheduling and teamwork.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Other Certificate / Diploma Phlebotomy preferred
Licenses and Credentials
Experience
Six (6) months direct phlebotomy experience or completion of a 40-hour clinical rotation, preferably at Cooley Dickinson Health Care (CDHC) preferred and Clerical experience including medical terminology, preferably in a laboratory setting required
