Starting Date Fall 2026 Responsibilities
The Department of Mathematics at Midwestern State University invites applications for·a full-time 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. As a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics you will be expected to:
1. Teach 12 credit hours (generally four courses) per semester (fall and spring) of developmental, introductory, or advanced undergraduate mathematics, primarily face-to-face at MSU's campus in Wichita Falls, TX.
2. Pursue an active research agenda in mathematics or a closely related field
3. Participate in departmental, college, and university service and administration
Applicants in all fields of mathematics will be considered, but particular attention will be given to applicants in statistics, data science, computational and applied mathematics. The position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including incorporation of evidence-based teaching strategies, a collaborative approach to teaching a course design, and a commitment to continuing development.
The McCoy College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering currently has 52 full-time faculty members in 6 academic departments/schools. The College serves more than 700 students in STEM majors and provides graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, and Geosciences. The Department of Mathematics consists of fifteen faculty members and offers a BS and BA in mathematics along with courses supporting all university programs. The department takes a collaborative approach to teaching and research, with partnerships throughout the university.
Requirements
Required Qualifications include:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, such as statistics or applied mathematics (ABD is acceptable at time of selection, but completion date must be no later than August 1, 2026.)
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses. Teaching as a graduate student is applicable as long as it includes primary responsibility for a course.
- Active research agenda in mathematics or a closely related field
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Successful student mentoring and/or community engagement
- A record of peer-reviewed mathematics research
