Nature of Work : This work involves conveying and receiving history information from the National Law Enforcement Teletype System (NLETS), and entering and retrieving criminal data for the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Nebraska Crime Information System (NCIS). Assignments of incumbents in the Data Review Unit are not rotated. Incumbents perform their duties with relative independence and receive guidance from a superior as needed and must be willing to work a variety of shifts / schedules including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education and Experience : The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and / or experience.

High school graduation or its equivalent

AND

Two (2) years of experience in general clerical work.

Special Qualifications :

  • Must pass a typing test with a net accuracy of thirty (30) words per minute with 90% accuracy at the time of application.
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass a background investigation.

Pay Range : $21.26 with step increases to $26.87 Hourly

Benefits : Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year : twelve days vacation; eighteen days sick; and fourteen holidays. Examination Information : The multiple-choice / written examination will be on October 21, 2025, at 9 : 00am at the Omaha / Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, 7th floor, room 702. An invitation via email to the exam will be given to candidates once their application has been received, reviewed by a recruiter, and accepted to the test for the position. The test is designed to assess knowledge of the job, skills, and abilities of this position. The passing score on the examination is 50%. This will be weighted 100% in the final score.

Veteran Points : To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by October 22, 2025.

  • Operates a voice radio communications system to respond to police officer requests regarding record checks, wanted persons, warrants, or stolen items; retrieves data from a computer; determines pertinent information to release and transmits information to officers using a coded system.
  • Enters, retrieves, updates, and deletes criminal data using a computer linked to national and state crime communications systems; enters missing persons, stolen vehicles, and stolen property; performs background checks.

  • Receives and transcribes non-emergency telephone information to complete reports from citizens.
  • Checks police reports for completeness and accuracy and returns reports if incomplete; assigns appropriate codes and enters data to create criminal histories.
  • Completes entries into an online database for towed vehicles due to violations, accidents, or repossession.
  • Sends messages through online teletype system to outside agencies.
  • Operates an enhanced software program that houses all officer reports (i.e. crashes, citations, vehicles, missing persons, bookings, impounds).
  • Processes citations from officers, including parking tickets and citations from the Nebraska Humane Society.
  • Utilizes a state and county software program to retrieve warrants and protection orders, and to look up court information as needed.
  • Receives death notifications and gives them to the appropriate individual.
  • Assists with training new employees, as needed, including working alongside, reviewing documents and / or computer entries, and answering questions.
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
