Overview :
The Emergency Department Technician plays a crucial role in assisting nursing staff and ensuring optimal patient care within a fast-paced emergency department setting. This position requires versatility in various responsibilities including patient care support, clerical tasks, and equipment management, all under the supervision of a registered nurse. The technician contributes to maintaining a safe, organized, and patient-focused environment, adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities :
- Demonstrate leadership abilities consistent with OneCHRISTUS Competencies.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Monitor and observe patients, reporting any changes in their condition to the RN.
- Safely escort stable patients to different departments as necessary.
- Manage cleaning, procurement, and return of medical equipment and supplies.
- Help with inventory management by ordering and maintaining necessary stock items.
- Perform special procedures like venipuncture, crutch training, and dressing changes as trained.
- Set up and assist with emergency department procedures under RN guidance.
- Operate monitoring equipment and perform tasks like EKGs and lab tests as delegated by the RN.
- Collect laboratory specimens and perform phlebotomy when directed.
- Adapt patient care methods to meet the diverse needs of patients.
- Perform clerical duties, including transcription of orders and maintaining unit records.
- Act as a welcoming presence for patients while obtaining necessary registration information.

- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education and Skills :
High School Diploma or GED preferred.Completion of a relevant educational program or applicable previous experience required :Nursing Assistant programMedical Assistant programBasic or Intermediate EMT programPatient Care Technician programMilitary medic trainingExperience :
1-2 years of direct patient care experience in emergency settings or similar preferred.Licensure and Certification :
BLS certification required.De-escalation training must be completed within 90 days of hire.Maintain certification in one of the following :Certified Nursing AssistantCertified Medical AssistantCertified Patient Care TechnicianEMT-B or EMT-IWork Schedule : PRN basis as needed.
