2 complete years of Labor and Delivery experience (post-orientation)

ACLS, BLS, AWOHNN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP

Magnesium Sulfate drip management and Oxytocin management

Insulin drip management (on occasion)

Description :

The unit has 4 OBED stretchers, 7 Antepartum beds, and 10 labor beds (one labor bed is down).

There are 2 Labor and Delivery Operating Room rooms and 2 Labor and Delivery PACU bays.

Staff comprises 79 individuals who are responsible for patient care.

During the day shift, the team includes a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, a Unit Secretary, 8 RNs, 2 Scrub Techs, and a Resource TCN.

The night shift team includes a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, a Unit Secretary, 2 Scrub Techs, 7 RNs, and a Resource TCN.

Patient ratios vary depending on acuity levels : 1 : 2-4 for OBED, 1 : 2-4 for Antepartum, and 1 : 1-2 for Labor and Delivery unit.

Equipment used includes bedside ultrasounds, dopplers, fetal monitors, infant warmers, labor beds, and other necessary OR equipment.

The Electronic Medical Record system used is Meditech, GE CPN Centricity.

Typical procedures performed in this unit consist of sterile vaginal exams, FSE / IUPC placement, circulating cesarean sections, NSTs, and Oxytocin induction / augmentation.

Management of magnesium sulfate therapy for preeclampsia and fetal neuroprotection, as well as insulin drip titration, are also part of the responsibilities.
