Academic Services Officer I- Student Affairs, Engineering

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer I- Student Affairs, Engineering at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

The Academic Services Officer (ASO) serves as a key member of the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Engineering. This position supports student advising and plays a central role in the coordination and execution of student recruitment, yield strategies, enrollment initiatives, student events, and engagement with student organizations. The ASO collaborates closely with the Manager of Student Services, department chairs, program coordinators, and university-wide offices such as Admissions and Enrollment Management to support the strategic goals of the College in student success and enrollment growth.

Academic Advising:
Provide academic advising for undergraduate students in the College of Engineering, including assistance with course selection, academic planning, policies, and degree requirements.

Student Recruitment and Yield:
Assist in the development and implementation of student recruitment and yield strategies to attract and enroll a diverse and talented student population.

Coordinate with the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management to streamline the student admission and enrollment process.

Represent the College of Engineering at recruitment events, high school visits, and information sessions both on- and off-campus.

Outreach and Event Coordination:
Plan, coordinate, and support student-focused events such as Open House, New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Preview Days, and yield events.

Collaborate with the Manager of Student Services and Associate Dean to develop and implement strategies for student engagement and outreach.

Serve as liaison to various College departments for recruitment-related events and initiatives.

Interdepartmental and University Collaboration:
Maintain effective working relationships with academic departments in the College of Engineering to ensure alignment of student support and recruitment efforts.

Serve as a liaison between the College and university offices such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Orientation, and Enrollment Management.

Student Engagement and Organizations:
Provide support to student organizations within the College of Engineering, including oversight of events, funding requests, and compliance with university policies.

Encourage student involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities to enhance the student experience.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field preferred.

Minimum 2 years of experience in academic advising, student services, recruitment, or related higher education roles.

Demonstrated commitment to student success and diversity in higher education.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.

Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.

Preferred qualifications:

•Experience working with engineering or STEM students. • Familiarity with student information systems (, Banner, DegreeWorks) and CRM platforms. • Knowledge of university admissions, recruitment, and retention best practices.
