Unit Technician
This position works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The unit technician acts as receptionist for the unit by answering inquiries, offering assistance and providing directions to patients, visitors, other departments, families, other nursing staff and physicians in a friendly and cooperative manner.
The unit tech may also perform and assist with individual activities of daily living as well as certain treatments for patient care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. The unit tech also maintains adequate levels of supplies per established levels and runs errands for the unit when necessary.
Responsibilities :
(15%) Help to maintain cleanliness of department and nurses station, ensuring the department is prepared to perform required duties / tasks. Maintains adequate levels of all supplies in nurses station. Assists in returning / obtaining needed supplies / equipment to / from other departments as needed. Assists in organizing and cleaning the nurses station, as well as keeping hallways of nursing units uncluttered and clear of inappropriate furniture / equipment, etc.

Equivalent Experience : 1) New hires on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to have a current CNA certification and keep it active must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification or a current State of Michigan registry document as a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan or successful completion of one semester of nursing clinical education by an Accredited Registered Nurse Program or Medical Assistant with the following : Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc. 2) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do not have a current CNA will be grandfathered in and not required to obtain the certification as long as they stay in their current classification. 3) Current Care Assistants as of April 1, 2020 who do have a current and active CNA will be required to maintain and keep active their certification as long as they are in their current classification. 4) Internal transfers after on or after April 1, 2020 will be required to obtain the CAN certification or complete the internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification within six (6) months of their transfer date. Once obtaining their certification, they will be required to maintain and keep the certification active while in employed in either classification.
