A Certified Peer Support Specialist provides support, advocacy, and guidance to individuals navigating mental health and / or substance use challenges. Drawing on personal lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, builds trust, and empowers clients to achieve their recovery goals.
Responsibilities :
- Build supportive, recovery-focused relationships with clients.
- Assist clients in developing coping skills, life skills, and wellness strategies.
- Provide education on mental health, substance use, and community resources.
- Support clients in navigating systems, including healthcare, housing, and social services.
- Accompany clients to appointments and community activities as needed.
- Facilitate peer support groups and individual sessions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure client-centered care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.
Qualifications :
Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (state-specific requirements apply).Personal experience with mental health or substance use recovery and willingness to share insights.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to establish trust and maintain professional boundaries.Familiarity with recovery principles and trauma-informed care.Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (preferred).This role is ideal for someone passionate about helping others overcome challenges, fostering resilience, and promoting self-determination in recovery.
