RN Educator | OB / Nursery Lactation Specialist

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Maternal-Infant Services Clinical Educator and Lactation Specialist. This role focuses on supporting nursing staff within the Obstetrics and Nursery Department by providing education, mentorship, and direct lactation consultation to ensure exceptional care for mothers, newborns, and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and assess educational programs tailored to orientation, competency, and ongoing professional development for obstetrics and nursery nursing staff.
• Ensure all training aligns with regulatory standards and incorporates adult learning principles and evidence-based practices.
• Serve as a clinical mentor and resource in maternal-infant care and lactation management, promoting safe, patient-centered care.
• Lead and support preceptors, new graduates, and experienced nurses to foster professional growth and accountability.
• Collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to integrate education with clinical practice and quality improvement efforts.
• Utilize research and evaluation tools to enhance educational initiatives, clinical outcomes, and policy development.
• Provide direct lactation support and education to patients and families, creating individualized care plans that respect family choices.
• Coordinate and teach prenatal, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care classes for parents and community groups.
• Partner with community organizations and health agencies to promote maternal-infant wellness and continuity of care.
• Participate in regional initiatives aimed at improving perinatal outcomes, patient satisfaction, and public awareness of maternal-child health.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of perinatal and lactation standards and best practices.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

At least five years of clinical experience in maternal-infant, perinatal, or neonatal nursing is preferred. A minimum of one year in adult teaching, staff development, or clinical education is required. Experience in lactation consultation and program coordination is highly desirable, along with skills in developing educational programs based on community and staff needs.

Physical and Mental Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and critical thinking. Frequent physical activity including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 35 lbs., and handling infants and equipment is expected. The ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment is essential.

Working Conditions

Potential exposure to infectious diseases and biohazardous materials exists, along with occasional emotionally stressful situations involving patients and families. Minimal physical discomfort and rare exposure to hostile individuals may occur.
