Description

SUMMARY :

The Board of Directors ("Board") is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end, the Board determines how the organization will carry out its mission through long and short-range planning. The Board adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversite. The Board recruits, orients and develops board members. The Board hires and evaluates the performance of the Chief Executive Officer. The Board evaluates its performance and the overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission. The Board establishes policies for the effective management of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

1.Understands and promotes the organization's vision, mission, and values.

2.Familiar with the organization's programs, policies, and operations

3.Attends board meetings and appropriate committee meetings.

4.Actively serves on at least one committee and offers to take on special assignments.

5.Reviews agendas and supporting documents prior to meetings.

6.Makes an annual contribution to the organization commensurate with ability.

7.Participates in fund raising activities and special events.

8.Keeps current on community healthcare issues and developments in program areas.

9.Strictly adheres to conflict-of-interest policies.

10.Strictly adheres to confidentiality policies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must speak English.

TIME COMMITTMENT

1.Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings (12 monthly boardmeetings, approximately 2 hours in length, on the 1st Monday of the month, except December)

2.Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and related work (1-3 hours permonth as determined by the committee)

3.Attend and actively participate in the annual planning retreat (1 day)

4.Attend special events such as fundraisers and groundbreaking ceremonies.

5.Attend new board member orientation (approx. 3-4 hours)

6.Meet with potential donors / funders to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, etc. (approx. 4 hours annually)

7. Interacts appropriately with diverse populations and different community groups. Sensitive to multicultural issues.
