Presbyterian Medical Group seeks a Pediatric Hospitalist MD / DO to join our established practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We're all about well-being, starting with yours. Practice Highlights

  • 24 / 7 inpatient care for children with both routine and complex medical conditions.
  • Pediatric sedation service, sedating pediatric patients for noninvasive medical procedures and imaging studies
  • In-person and telemedicine consultative services for our on-site emergency department(s), urgent care locations and outlying facilities
  • In addition to pediatric care, we manage a newborn nursery, attend high-risk deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation / stabilization as needed.
  • Part of a vital program within our integrated, not-for-profit health system
  • 24x7 intensivist support provided by NICU and PICU.
  • Thriving pediatric subspecialty group including pediatric cardiology, endocrinology (ADA recognized diabetes program), GI, nephrology, neurology, pediatric surgery, behavioral medicine, pulmonology, hematology / oncology, and chronic care.
  • Co-located inpatient and outpatient services – centralized program in flagship hospital with comprehensive lab and ancillary services and a brand-new physician lounge, gym and easy access parking.

Responsibilities

This position provides inpatient pediatric / newborn care in two primary venues :

1) Hospitalist inpatient care — care for all inpatient pediatric patients referred by the primary care provider, EDs, and UCs; provide in-person consultation on pediatric patients in the RMC ED; discharge planning with the primary care physician; collaborate with nurse case managers, care coordinators, consulting and primary care physicians, and other facility-based team members; lead the care team in delivering efficient and compassionate care.

2) Newborn care — care for well newborns and establish a primary care provider prior to discharge; collaborate with nurse case managers, care coordinators, unit-based nursing and nursing leadership, obstetric providers, neonatologists, and other team members; attend higher-risk deliveries and provide resuscitation and stabilization of newborns until neonatal transport to a higher level of care can be arranged.

Responsibilities include :

  • Oversees and is accountable for the overall quality of care and clinical outcomes within the assigned facilities.
  • Oversees and is accountable for all resource utilization within the assigned facilities.
  • Ensure both patient and provider satisfaction and develop plans for improvement.
  • Provides input into the hospitalist team’s financial, clinical, and service quality performance; budget; capital plan; and personnel issues.
  • Organize, attend and facilitate daily care team meetings within the assigned facility.
  • Attend and participate in all regular scheduled hospitalist meetings.
  • Attend and participate in requested QI, Peer Review and Care Management meetings.
  • Attend and participate in Sub-specialist / Medical group meetings as requested.
  • Provide real time feedback to PCPs regarding clinical and operational guidelines to optimize patient care and clinical efficiency.
  • Maintain coding and encounter data standards for completeness, accuracy, timeliness and reimbursement level, including legible documentation
  • Meet and maintain all provider credentialing and QI standards.
  • Participate in the development, adoption, and implementation process for clinical standards for inpatient pediatric and newborn care.
  • Knowledgeable of the contents of The Hospitalist Manual : An Evidence-Based Approach to Medicine and Guidelines for Perinatal Care.
  • Work with the Medical Director to assure proper provider staffing, including vacation coverage.
  • Mentor and educate all new Pediatric Hospitalists (physician and APC) on PMG's service standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, literature review, in-services, and workshops.
  • Maintains credentialing for performance of lumbar puncture, circumcision, frenectomy and neonatal intubation.
  • Maintains Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
  • Performs other functions as required.
