As a Peer Supporter in addiction medicine, you will leverage your lived experience with recovery to guide and inspire individuals on their own journeys to sobriety. Operating in Ohio, you will provide empathetic support, share recovery resources, and foster a non-judgmental environment where clients feel empowered to make positive changes. Responsibilities include facilitating peer-led support groups, assisting clients in navigating treatment services, and collaborating with clinical teams to deliver holistic care. Your role will be pivotal in bridging the gap between clinical treatment and personal recovery by offering encouragement, advocacy, and a relatable perspective. Exceptional communication skills, patience, and a strong commitment to recovery principles are vital for this position.
Job Duties :
Provide peer-based support to individuals in detox and residential care, drawing from personal recovery experience to foster trust and connectionFacilitate peer-led support groups that promote hope, shared experience, and motivation for changeOffer one-on-one encouragement, emotional support, and active listening to clients navigating early recovery and withdrawalAssist clients in understanding and accessing available treatment services, recovery resources, and community-based supportsCollaborate with clinical teams to support individualized care plans, offering insights based on lived experienceServe as a recovery role model, demonstrating healthy coping strategies, self-advocacy, and engagement in long-term recovery practicesHelp clients set personal goals, identify barriers to recovery, and celebrate milestones and progressSupport discharge planning and continuity of care by connecting clients with aftercare resources such as 12-step groups, sober housing, or outpatient servicesMaintain appropriate professional boundaries while cultivating a safe, non-judgmental space for open dialogueParticipate in staff meetings, case reviews, and training sessions to integrate peer support within the broader treatment programDocument peer interactions and relevant observations in accordance with organizational guidelines and confidentiality standardsUphold ethical standards and comply with state regulations like OhioMHAS and including certification requirements for Peer Recovery Supporters in OhioEngage in ongoing education and supervision to maintain certification and expand recovery support competenciesRequirements / Qualifications :
OhioMHAS 40-hour Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) Training1+ years of experience in a detox or residential addiction treatment setting
