Description :

Unit has 8 operating suites, with 2 designated for cardiac procedures.

Performs over 700 open heart surgeries and nearly 2,400 orthopedic cases annually, including 350 joint replacements.

Technicians must hold BLS certification and CST credential.

For positions related to cardiac procedures, RNs must have 5 years of general experience and an additional 2 years in CVOR, totaling 7 years.

Scrubbing experience is required, and candidates should have experience with robotics or da Vinci systems.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 1.

Electronic Medical Records system is Cerner.

Charge nurse is present to relieve breaks.

Call requirements include rotating on-call duties, typically every other day and every third weekend.

Weekend call is from Friday 6 PM to Monday 6 AM.

A one-day-a-week call is required for technicians, starting at 10 : 30 PM and extending until 6 : 30 AM the following morning, as well as 24 hours of call on weekends.

Response time for call is 30-60 minutes.

Holidays are included in the permanent staff rotation, with expectations to work most holidays.

Department provides scrubs, which must be changed before leaving the facility.

Anesthesia monitors and ventilators are used within the unit.

Surgeons are on-call 24 / 7.

Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.

Shifts may vary between 6 : 30 AM to 5 : 00 PM or 12 : 00 PM to 10 : 30 PM.

Floater positions are not applicable.

Orientation for staff is typically between 3 to 7 days for nurses and a maximum of 3 days for technicians.

Common procedures include general orthopedics, neurology, urology, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, and robotics, as well as cardiac surgeries such as open heart, TAVR, and AVR valve replacement.

Scrubbing is a requirement for RNs, who must have experience in both scrubbing and circulating.

Candidates applying for sterile processing positions must hold certification from a national certifying body, though BLS is not required for this role.

Equipment utilized includes autoclaving tools.

The facility reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment and up to 3 shifts for shorter assignments.

Charting is performed using the Cerner system.

A BSN degree is not required.

Experience in a trauma level care setting is beneficial.
