JOB SUMMARY
The Indian Health Board of Minneapolis is excited to announce an opening with the Integrated Behavioral Health team for a licensed or license eligible behavioral health consultant.
Integrated behavioral health is a growing field within psychology that improves patients' access to mental health services, helps with addressing disparities in mental health access for certain minority groups and aids in the prevention and treatment of chronic health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer. The Indian Health Board, Inc. is committed to providing indigenized trauma-informed care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains a visible presence in the primary care clinic & works closely with the primary care providers, nursing staff, care coordinators, recovery services, and indigenous services.Is available for "on the fly" assessment, consultation, & brief behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions for patients.Is available for same day and scheduled initial consultations with patients referred by primary care providers as well as brief, follow-up visits.Conducts risk assessments, safety planning and triage as necessary in the primary care clinic.Carries a caseload (about 10 per week) of traditional psychotherapy clients - provide traditional psychotherapy and assessment for the full range of mental health disorder including depressive and anxiety disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, child abuse, traumas and other socioenvironmental problems.Utilizes a brief intervention model targeted at reducing alcohol & drug use in clinic patients.Provides a range of services including screening for common conditions, assessments, and interventions related to chronic disease management programs.Provides psychoeducation for patients during individual and group visits & will help patients identify and meet their health and wellness goals including making healthy lifestyle change.Triages patients with severe or high-risk behavioral problems to community resources for specialty MH services consistent with level of care criteria.Provides group therapy based on identified community need.Facilitates and oversees referrals to specialty mental health / substance abuse services, and when appropriate, supports a smooth transition from specialty services back to the primary care clinic level of management.Completes progress notes for the medical chart that explain assessment findings, interventions delivered, and recommendations made to the PCP. Maintains clinical records and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner to comply with all administrative regulations.Educates PCPs in the basic principles of brief behavioral and cognitive behavioral interventions and reinforce their use in the medical visit.Provides Motivational Interviewing and brief problem-solving cognitive interventions aimed at promoting self-efficacy.Participates in program development especially in indigenizing integrated behavioral health including by creating groups or services that incorporate indigenous ways of healing with Western medicine.Participates in monthly medical update meetings.Develop and / or participate in health promotion classes and programing.Other duties as assignedEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Licensed as a Behavioral Health Provider by the state of Minnesota (LPCC, LMFT, LICSW)Must have experience and knowledge in trauma informed care & brief assessment and intervention, preferably in a medical setting & working in multidisciplinary team.Knowledge and respect of the American Indian community.Prefer candidates with experience working with patients of all ages including pediatrics, adults and geriatrics.Prefer candidates who have experience working with patients with substance abuse.Personable characteristics for a likely successful candidate : team player, strong interpersonal communication and relationship skills, comfort in a fast-paced environment, initiative and a good sense of humor.HIPAA
