- What You'll Do :
- As the Assistant Library Director, you’ll play a key leadership role in shaping the day-to-day operations and long-term success of our public library system. Working alongside the Library Director and a talented team of division managers, you’ll help guide the library’s people, projects, and priorities—ensuring exceptional service to our community.
You’ll oversee several key divisions, including Technical Services, Lending Services, Maintenance, and Administration, and serve as a trusted advisor on personnel matters, budgeting, purchasing, and facility operations. From coordinating large-scale maintenance and technology projects to supporting hiring and staff development, this position blends strategic planning with hands-on leadership.

- Essential Tasks & Responsibilities :
- Partner with division managers and Human Resources to recruit, interview, and hire exceptional library staff.
- Oversee major purchases and vendor relationships to ensure the responsible and efficient use of public resources.
- Manage the library’s building maintenance and security programs, coordinating with City departments and contractors.
- Support budget development, financial reporting, and expenditure tracking for multiple divisions.
- Guide and develop staff in Technical Services, Lending Services, Maintenance and Administrative Services, fostering a positive and productive team culture.
- Assist in planning and implementing operational projects and new initiatives that enhance library services and community engagement.
- Represent the library at meetings, including Library Board sessions, and assist in preparing technical reports and annual statistics.
- Qualifications :
- Required Qualifications
- Master's in library science or master's in library & information science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina or another state, with the ability to obtain an NC license
- Must be eligible for an NC Public Librarian Certification
- Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of supervisory experience
- Experience with Workday
- Experience with NC Cardinal / Evergreen
- 3-5 years of experience with budget preparation
