Job Description
The Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately collecting specimens for medical provider ordered lab tests.
Interpret and Process Lab Orders
Interpret, verify and carry out medical provider ordered lab testsInterpret, reference and apply laboratory specimen requirementsSpecimen Collection
Obtain or collect body fluids, tissue and other substances to aid the laboratory in determining normal and abnormal findingsWill be proficient in capillary, venous and arterial blood collectionWill be knowledgeable in proper specimen collection : specimen requirements, integrity of specimen, isolation precautions, timed blood draws, and aseptic techniqueUnderstand the importance of patient identification and correct specimen labelingPatient Interaction
Foster an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while explaining and performing proceduresProvide instructions clearly and accurately for patient collected specimensMaintain an environment of privacy, safety and integrity for all patients, at all timesOther Job Duties
Perform all other related assignments (including special projects) as required in a professional and cooperative mannerParticipate in departmental or organizational meetings and trainingsPoint of Care Testing as trained per facilityPerform Urine Drug Screen collections and Breath Alcohol TestingEducation, Experience & Skills Required
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent degree
ExperiencePrevious experience working in a health care facility preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesRegular and anticipated attendance is required
Strong attention to detail and data entry skillsAbility to positively interact with others and provide exceptional customer serviceAbility to use required systems : Laboratory Information System and Electronic Medical RecordMature judgment and ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with professionalismExcellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate with patients and employees on a daily basisUnion Position
